The Queensland Government is investing $34 million to refurbish the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
The QPAC refurbishment will include new seating, lighting and acoustics and will ensure equitable access to arts and cultural activities for all visitors by providing more seating choices and easier access for patrons with mobility difficulties and their guests or groups.
Refurbishment will take place from 8 November 2008 until March 2009.
Improvements will include
New central glass lift providing access to all levels
Upgrade of existing Concert Hall and Lyric Theatre lifts
Box office and cloak room wheelchair accessible
Additional toilets for people with mobility difficulties
Additional wheelchair seating in the central stalls and balconies of Lyric Theatre and Concert Hall.
During the refurbishment
The Lyric Theatre and Concert Hall will be closed
The Lyrebird Restaurant and Cascade Court Café will be closed
The qtix Box Office counter will relocate to the Playhouse.
The drop-off tunnel will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians
The Cultural Centre car parks will remain open and accessible from Russell Street, Melbourne Street or Peel Street/Stanley Place.
The Playhouse and Cremorne Theatre will remain open during the refurbishment and it will be business as usual throughout the rest of the Cultural Centre.
